Anna Akello works in the Tailoring Department at Living Hope.
Life before Living Hope was emotionally and financially draining for Anna. She discovered that she was HIV+ and, her husband had abandoned the family. Anna soon realised that if she was to raise her three children, she needed to be strong, for them.
Anna worked tirelessly to raise money to take care of her family. “I would wake up at
6:00 am to sew clothes for customers then make my way to the market to sell food. It wasn’t easy finding new customers since most of the market sellers sold the same food,” she recalls.
For Anna, Living Hope was her prayers answered. “I was among the many ladies who God chose for a new start in life. Through Living Hope, I learnt about the Bible and gained practical skills in tailoring and jewellery making. I was very excited when I was told that I would be learning to tailor since I had acquired some skills from my work at home. This was a great opportunity for me to polish my tailoring skills,” Anna says.
At Living Hope, Anna has found love and belonging. She sees a bright future ahead. “The workshop and the ladies have become my family. I start each day by speaking a blessing over my work and the day ahead.”
Living Hope empowers women like Anna so not only are their lives changed but, so are the lives of their children. Today Anna is a proud, dignified woman who can take care of her family. In fact, her oldest son is going to university this year.
